Katzie Development Corporation (KDC) is a Katzie First Nation owned and operated economic development firm. Currently, KDC operates subsidiary businesses relating to archaeology and tourism and is seeking a dynamic, high energy Chief Executive Officer with excellent business acumen to guide its existing businesses and establish new opportunities.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for driving the economic advancement for Katzie First Nation through business development, employment and community-based projects. This involves the creation and management of businesses with unique revenue streams that generate wealth for Katzie First Nation. The CEO must ensure that Katzie First Nation values and traditions are present in all KDC businesses and ensure that their work aligns with the economic goals of Katzie First Nation.
The CEO provides oversight into all aspects of the business and drives the company’s financial performance in accordance with the KDC strategic plan. The CEO reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for building positive working relationships with key partners; particularly with the company’s shareholders - Katzie First Nation and the Nation’s Officers.
More specifically, the CEO will be responsible for leading the organization through a critical period of growth while emphasizing the need to diversify and create new business opportunities. It is imperative that the CEO establish a positive and collaborative working relationship with Katzie First Nation’s Chief Administrative Officer and seek direction and guidance on new initiatives and key projects from KDC’s Board of Directors, Shareholders, and Katzie First Nation Officers.
- Building and empowering effective teams amongst the senior leadership within KDC.
- Executing the company and Nation’s strategic direction for economic development.
- Providing the day-to-day operational leadership and direction of KDC businesses.
- Serving as the main point of contact between the board of directors and corporate operations.
- Ensuring financial accountability by effectively forecasting and managing the corporation’s revenues and expenditures.
- Preparing regular financial reports for the Board of Directors as per Board direction and conducting business in a manner that protects KDC’s financial position and acts to protect it against potential risk.
- Providing directions to business managers to ensure that business operations align with the Board and Nation’s key priorities.
- Leading the strategic planning for all businesses under KDC.
- Maintaining professional integrity and relationship management with all stakeholders.
- Establishing a strong presence in Katzie First Nation communities, and with Elders.
- Negotiating contracts and new business ventures and seeking appropriate input and approvals from the Board of Directors and Shareholders.
- Seeking approval from the Board on key deliverables in accordance with governance policies, Katzie First Nation Laws and key directives.
- Ensuring adherence to applicable legislation.
- Making policy recommendations to the Board of Directors with respect to finance, human resources, capital projects and asset management.
The CEO has exemplary skills in conflict resolution, both with respect to conflict internal to the organization and with key stakeholders and partners. The CEO must have the ability to be proactive and effectively predict and adjust to a rapidly changing business environment. This includes effectively driving technological change and innovation. The CEO shall have:
- An MBA or an equivalent combination of work experience and education. Certificates in Indigenous Economic Development would be an asset.
- A minimum of 5 years of related experience, preferably with First Nations and/or Economic Development entities.
- Extensive experience with business management with expertise in the areas of human resources, finance and strategic planning.
- Solid knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting with respect to corporate entities.
- Previous experience leading a senior management team.
- In-depth knowledge of corporate finance principles, laws, and best practices.
- Analytical ability and business acumen.
- Knowledge of Katzie First Nation laws, customs and traditions.
- Ability to effectively work with mínimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills including public speaking and report writing.
- Expert-level knowledge of business development.
This is a permanent position with comprehensive benefits and pension plans and an annual salary of $130,000 to $150,000.
