Rainbow’s End is a Hamilton based charity that manages a series of social enterprises that include a well established property maintenance service, Mow-Town.

We are searching for a motivated person for Mow-Town; The individual will have a range of general landscaping experience, be reliable, creative and a capable field leader.

The team leader will head-up all summer and winter work teams, undertaking residential cutting and a broad range of garden work, plus snow clearing in the winter.

The team leader will interact extensively with customers, generating quotes and making proposals, so good communication and the ability to use an i-Pad and computer is a must.

Physically capable, the team-leader will plan and schedule the work for the teams of between four and eight team-members. The role requires an enthusiastic attitude and is suitable for a young (..or young at heart) individual who likes outdoor work and a diversity of challenges. They will be supported by the Executive Director, who will be available to help improve and develop the team-leader’s leadership skills.

Rainbow’s End is a very positive, collaborative and supportive environment that has the employment of people living with mental health challenges, and the Executive Director will provide oversight and guidance to the supervisor when required.

**Principal duties: Assume responsibility for the property maintenance operations of Rainbow’s End.**

**Operational Responsibilities**
- Build and lead regular landscaping teams, ensuring the satisfactory and timely completion of the landscaping work.
- Providing guidance to employees with different levels of experience in the following areas: safe and efficient work practices, appropriate work behaviours, customer interactions and safe machine and tool usage.
- Operate landscaping equipment, including mowers, tillers, trimmers and other hand tools, as well as be confident and comfortable driving a truck and trailer and bobcat sized vehicles.

**Business Development Responsibilities**
- Communicate with clients to plan and propose work (landscaping, lawn maintenance, planting, tree trimming.
- Estimate costs and provide simple quotes.

**Equipment and Procedures Responsibilities**
- Develop and implement operational efficiencies and safe operating procedures.
- Ensure vehicles, trailers and equipment are correctly maintained, outfitted and safe.
- Report incidents appropriately.
- Coordinate correct billing and the reporting of hours with the Office Manager.

**Other Responsibilities**
- Manage and resolve on-site issues (manage customer expectations and employee issues).

**Qualifications/ Skills Required**:The applicant should be an enthusiastic supporter of social enterprises and a “cause crusader” for support of mental health recovery. They will need:

- Landscaping work experience; be able to teach good work practices and use equipment safely.
- Positive attitude and friendly manner.
- Flexibility to work extended hours occasionally.
- Coaching/teaching or counseling experience useful.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to meet targets.
- The ability to take initiative and work independently.
- be a problem solver and practical individual.
- A clean drivers license.
- Company vehicles are available but occasional use of a personal vehicle may be required (mileage paid).

A computer is provided and access to an i-Pad for planning and photographing jobs is provided. Knowledge of some software (MS Office, Adobe etc.) will be required.

It would be advantageous for the leader to have an awareness of plants/planting and weed control management and regular landscaping and pesticide use but most of landscaping work is focused on grass cutting, planting, trimming and resodding.

**Certifications**:Certification in any area relating to teaching or mentoring and landscaping would be an advantage but not essential.

A good attitude to working hard and to work enthusiastically to help build employment opportunities for people with lived experience of mental illness is the most significant part of this role.

A background check will be conducted and good references will be needed. 1 year contract is available but a part-time role is also an option that can be negotiated. Salary : $45k approx. dependent on experience. Flexible hours and working days are negotiable. Work is almost exclusively in the Hamilton/Burlington area, so avoiding a long commute are part of the benefits of working at Rainbow’s End.
