**Duties**:
Under the supervision of a government research scientist, the selected student will be responsible for participating in the interactions with the Arviat community to identify approaches to maintaining goose resources and sustainable harvesting practices. The selected student will gather Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ; Inuit traditional knowledge) to explore how climate change is affecting the ability of Inuit harvesters to access geese, and identify challenges and enablers to Arviat food security via goose harvesting practices and stewardship.

**Work environment**:
Environment and Climate Change Canada is a science-based department that is mandated to protect and conserve our natural
environment in collaboration with Indigenous partners. Within the Wildlife Research Division, we conduct research to supporting the conservation and management of Canada’s wildlife, and informing protected areas development, policy, and the Canadian public. The student will be working with a diversity of team members, including researchers at Environment and Climate Change Canada, faculty and students at McGill University, and Indigenous partners. **Education**:
ED1. To facilitate a collaboration with a professor on this project, the student must be currently enrolled in a Doctoral Graduate Program with full-time student status in a field of the social or natural sciences directly related to the duties of the position at McGill University. The student must have completed at least one university course in conservation biology or ethnobiological research or have conducted research in the field of conservation biology or ethnobiological research.

Degree equivalency

**Experience**:
EX1. Experience in planning, organizing or conducting social sciences or ethnobiological research related to wildlife or the environment.
EX2. Experience in conducting research in partnership with northern Indigenous communities or organizations
EX3. Experience in managing and analyzing social sciences research data.
EX4. Experience in preparing scientific reports or publications, including those written for general audiences
