About the Role - Research and Data Visualization Manager

We are a high-achieving, close-knit team searching for an extremely organized researcher/storyteller with a facility for data compilation and visualization to help us achieve our public policy goals and educate our members.


Reporting to the Vice President Policy and Public Affairs, the Research and Data Visualization Manager will work closely with colleagues in the Communications and Public Affairs teams to manage HAC’s research program, supporting the Association’s critical government relations policy goals. You will also work closely with research teams in our partner tourism organizations across the country.

Location:

Hybrid – Ottawa Based (1-3 days in office).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative research and consultations on Hotel and Tourism Sector trends.
  • Keep up-to-date on industry trends, emerging data and policy research from industry and government sources.
  • Act as the Association’s representative on industry-wide research committees.
  • Manage and execute quarterly member surveys including questionnaire design, trends analysis and the publication of clear and visually impactful reports.
  • Create clear reports and data visualizations for use in presentations, member communications, Board reports and internal briefings.
  • Manage data and research relationships with industry partners.
  • Clearly communicate findings to senior members of management team.
  • Analyze local, national, and global trends that impact both the organization and the industry.
  • Use data and research to inform HAC’s policy recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain databases, and data systems that are easily accessible to team members.


Key Qualifications:

  • A degree or diploma in the social sciences or other applicable discipline related to data processing, data visualization and statistics.
  • Minimum of five (5) years progressive experience in research.
  • Project management experience with the ability to lead and prioritize multiple research projects and/or analysis initiatives at the same time.
  • Organized with strong data analysis and reporting skills. Deep experience in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Power BI, Excel and other programs for data visualization and data storytelling.
  • Familiarity with qualitative data analysis software such as NVivo and SPSS.
  • Creativity and strong storytelling skills with the ability to distill interesting and useful insights into a compelling and concise data story.
  • Intellectual curiosity to remain current with industry developments and seek answers, including identifying potential areas for further research and analysis.
