**Position Summary**:
Under the direction of the Research Manager, the Researcher/Data Solutions Technician is responsible for undertaking research services for projects as well as providing database-specific technological support to the research teams. This role performs various research level tasks including undertaking file review of departmental and archival records, document and file summary writing, and report writing. This role will also be involved in undertaking database set-up, document preparation and ingestion, and management and disposition tasking. Additionally, this role will be responsible for performing quality control activities including reviewing and editing of data to ensure accuracy and adherence to the protocols and standards.

**Major Responsibilities and Duties**:

- Researcher
- Conduct primary and secondary records research
- Identify and review relevant files and documents using electronic databases and finding aids
- Extract information from documents to be entered into a database
- Code documents into case specific databases
- Compile templated research reports
- Perform document production tasks, including scanning and archiving documents into collections
- Prepare regular status/progress reports
- Database Specialist
- Identification and setup/revisions to database templates to fit project requirements, and assurances of appropriate field mapping for project purposes and deliverables formatting (eg. Ensuring correct formatting of multi-entry tagging fields for keyword values, and ensuring accurate mapping of field to destination Nuix Discover case databases)
- Perform database backups as required, maintain SEI files generated from backups. Create end of year restore points.
- Database user on-boarding and technical issue troubleshooting guidance including resolving database corruption/crash issues
- Advise on disposition best practices and carry out media destruction tasking
- Responsible for project data processing/assessment via LAW and other tools including, but not limited to, Treesize Pro, iPRO iConvert, etc.
- Undertaking image format conversions
- Responsible for data collection best practices, as per project requirements, using a variety of toolsets including, but not limited to Nuix Evidence Mover, FTK Imager, Xcopy (Robocopy), etc.
- Liaise with project team members (e.g. Research Manager, Research Coordinator, Project Manager) to ensure project requirements are implemented and integrated, as required
- Prepare a variety of database review and deliverable formats, to meet the needs of project, including creation of iPRO Published Cases for review, Summation Mobile installations and case management, Nuix Discover deliverable export formatting and transformation, etc.
- Provide progress updates related to outstanding data tickets to Research Manager, Research Coordinator, and Project Manager as required

**Experience and Qualifications**:

- BA in history, Indigenous studies, or law (other social sciences/humanities degrees may be considered if applicant can demonstrate relevant professional research experience requirements are fulfilled)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience conducting primary records research and report writing
- Minimum 2 years of experience conducting document management activities with paper-based and electronic documents
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with databases in a research or business environment, preferably with experience in database management
- Professional experience conducting Canadian Indigenous history research related tasking
- Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and multi-task while working on multiple projects
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to write analytical reports and other research documents
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
- Ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment
- Ability to engage in training, follow directions, meet deadlines, and follow systematic reporting protocols
- Proficiency in MS Office suite of software
- Experience using academic literature databases and the internet for directed searches
- Ability to engage in problem solving as a member of a research team
- Eligible to obtain PWGSC security clearance
- Covid-19 vaccination required (exemptions may be granted on medical or religious grounds)

**Additional Desired Experience and Qualifications**:

- Professional training and/or eDiscovery practitioner and software certifications designations or active pursuit of professional designations (i.e., ACEDS designation)
