Location and Work Schedule: In-person position, flexibility required – morning, evenings, weekdays, weekends and holidays.

POSITION SUMMARY

Direction of Operations and Planning

  • Oversee the planning, operation, cleaning and maintenance of all facilities and grounds, including the direction of skilled trade staff responsible for a comprehensive preventative maintenance program.
  • Maintain a broad-based knowledge of Victoria University facilities and building services, applying engineering principles and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with Victoria University policies and government legislation.
  • Provide consultation and guidance on facility and services staffing and funding needs in strategic planning.
  • Forecast utility and staffing requirements to ensure facilities can be maintained.
  • Oversee the development of workplace systems to ensure effective management of the Infrastructure and Sustainability department.

Capital Project Planning

  • Develop and update a “Deferred Maintenance Plan” for all assets on campus.
  • Advise on “Capital Improvement Plans” and provide feasibility studies for projects.
  • Maintain knowledge of building codes, relevant legislation, and engineering standards.
  • Analyze existing facilities to assess potential impacts of proposed renovations.
  • Develop tender documents and administer contracts related to Capital projects.

Project Management

  • Oversee the work of direct reports and contractors throughout all stages of Capital projects.
  • Coordinate facility renovations to ensure minimal inconvenience for University faculty, students, and staff.
  • Monitor project progress and costs to ensure adherence to project specifications.
  • Provide input to various Committees regarding project progress and budget needs.

Human Resources Management

  • Establish a culture of respect, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Develop and communicate departmental performance standards.
  • Manage and develop staff to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Resolve technical problems to ensure timely completion of work.
