Realizing Manitoba’s potential to produce protein that is diverse, high-quality, healthy, and increasingly sustainable through a comprehensive Sustainable Protein Strategy, ASPIRE has been created by and for stakeholders across all protein sectors in the province. With a goal of becoming a world leader in sustainable protein, this new initiative will fall under the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) umbrella and is funded by both levels of government. Manitoba’s food systems are evolving, facing disruption; sustainability is both our biggest challenge and greatest opportunity. ASPIRE will create economic development opportunities to meet market demands for sustainability.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Vice President of CME, Manitoba, the Executive Director (ED) will take full ownership of Project ASPIRE, be a member of the CME leadership team and will utilize CME’s resources and network. Developed collaboratively under the guidance of Manitoba Agriculture and the Manitoba Protein Consortium (the board), the framework for this innovative new venture has been developed and requires an accomplished, entrepreneurial leader to operationalize, lead and grow the project. A framework has been developed and it is anticipated that this funded five-year project will become self-sustaining as this tremendous opportunity for the province comes to fruition.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive Project ASPIRE’s internal and external functions, including leadership and strategy, communications, community engagement, and data-information.
- Lead and oversee the Project’s activities, internal systems, and staff, identifying capacity and competency gaps, planning for potential organizational growth.
- Maintain a contextual understanding of implementation challenges and develop comprehensive solutions.
- Oversee the development and implementation of a measurement system to track outcomes and indicators across the initiative, using results to make adjustments, inform learning, and continuously improve.
- Ensure effective communications, including website, to attract new stakeholders to the movement.
- Participate in relevant networks and ensure stakeholder engagement.
Selection Criteria
- 10+ years of progressively senior experience, with at least 3 years’ experience managing teams in a fast-paced, dynamic non-profit, social enterprise, or relevant business environment.
- Degree in business, economics, policy, agriculture, sustainability, social sciences, or related discipline.
- Resourceful self-starter with proven experience building and leading collaborative teams and generating growth.
- Skilled in agile project management methodologies, or equivalent skills and competencies.
- Strong understanding of sustainability, with experience in a related field, and a working knowledge of agricultural and food systems.
- Strong communication, stakeholder relations, and networking skills, and experience securing funding.
