We are seeking an experienced Product Applications Engineer to join our team and drive our customer pursuits in North America. Turntide designs, develops and manufactures axial flux motors, HV inverters, LV motor controllers, batteries, pumps and fans for Commercial Vehicle, off-highway vehicle and non-road applications. We sell our product directly to OEMs and System Integrators. Our axial flux technology is unique in the industry and offers higher power density and higher efficiency compared to radial flux technology. The power electronics line is positioned to offer the highest performance at the lowest cost. OEMs and System Integrators combine our batteries in series and parallel to offer different system level voltages and energy levels creating the perfect energy storage and drive unit for each application.

The Job

This remote position will report to the Director of Applications Engineering in Waterloo. Expect to travel to the Waterloo office at least once a month, with additional travel required as determined by customer and lab priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Engage with a range of customers from small to global enterprises via email, telephone, remote desktop or on-site.
  2. Support the installation, maintenance, operation, troubleshooting, repair, and customer training of Turntide products at customer locations.
  3. Assist with motor characterization using dynos at our facilities in Waterloo, Canada, the UK and on-site customer locations.
  4. Generate and maintain Turntide documentation e.g. FAQs, Application Notes, Visit Reports, Product and User Manuals.
  5. Partner with the Sales Team working with customers to understand their technical needs and drive that feedback into Turntide Product and Engineering groups.
  6. Develop deep application expertise to proactively identify and resolve customer challenges before they arise.

Qualifications
  1. Enthusiastic, flexible, and eager learner. Strong team player with a positive attitude.
  2. 2+ years experience in one or more of the following:
  3. Battery storage solutions / Battery Management Systems.
  4. Power Electronics (Inverters, DCDCs, OBCs).
  5. Electric Machines (PMAC, Induction, SRM).
  6. Thermo Systems (Pumps and Fans).
  7. 2+ years experience onsite customer support.
  8. Must be able to travel both nationally and internationally, sometimes with limited notice.
  9. Commercially minded with a strong customer focus and excellent interpersonal skills.
  10. A safety-first approach with respect to high voltage/high current systems and products, manual handling, 5S, etc.
  11. Self-motivated with the ability to manage his/her own workload to achieve deadlines.
  12. Ability to clearly communicate technical information, both verbally and in writing.
  13. Must be able to handle customer confidential information.
  14. Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve in a logical, methodical manner.
  15. Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical, Electrical, or related engineering field.

Other Relevant Experience
  1. Knowledge of Functional Safety e.g. ISO26262, ISO13849, IEC61508, D0178B.
  2. Knowledge of EMC, Environmental, Product Safety and Electrical test standards e.g. ISO16750, ECE R10, R100.
  3. Experience with on highway, off highway and/or non-road vehicle applications.
  4. Experience presenting at industry events, customer events, STEM, etc.
  5. Direct sales experience.
