Position Title: Student – Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange

Duration: April to August 2025
The position will be with the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX), within the Education and Sciences Program Division.
UNESCO estimatesthat 617 million children—nearly all in low-income countries—are not achieving minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics. To overcome this, education systems in the Global South require better and more effective teacher training, more gender equity, better learning processes and more efficient ways of using evidence to better inform planning in the education sector. All of this will help achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which aims to ensure “inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” A key way to hasten progress is addressing knowledge gaps, improving access to evidence, and strengthening systems that support the generation and uptake of evidence and innovations in the Global South.
The Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX) is a global response to these challenges. GPE KIX addresses these challenges through three key priorities:
- generating high-quality, demand-driven research;
- mobilizing insights from applied research and learning exchanges into action; and
- strengthening the capacity of knowledge producers and users in developing countries to scale up successful innovations and integrate evidence-based practices into education planning, policy and implementation.
We are looking for someone to support the Education and Science team, to be involved in work across the program that may include the following tasks:
- Assist in the analysis and/or documentation of program themes (e.g. literature reviews/methodology analyses), including gender and inclusion and monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL).
- Maintain, update, and develop new content for the program’s website, and produce other communications materials.
- Assist with program-level monitoring, including extracting research findings, and analyzing outcomes and outputs for MEL systems.
- Support information management (compiling, organizing and filing program documents).
- Participate in program meetings and produce quality minutes and briefing notes.
- Review and synthesize research papers and project reports.
- Support the team with event, workshop or conference organization and implementation.
- Perform other tasks, as required.
Students are considered as integral members of teams and are invited to contribute to team discussions and assist with general programming. This work offers significant insight into the functioning of a donor and development research institution.
Candidate profile- To be considered, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada or be an international student with authorization to work in Canada for the full duration of the employment.
- You will return to full-time studies in the next academic term, or if you’re in your final year of studies, you must have been previously employed under either the Federal Student Work Experience Program, the Co-op/Internship Program or the Research Affiliate Program.
- Undergraduate (in their last year) or master’s student in education, economics, social sciences, international affairs, development studies, journalism or communications, artificial intelligence, or related fields.
- Have a proficiency in French and/or English (reading, writing and speaking).
- Proficiency in Spanish is an asset.
- Strong understanding of international development, science and technology institutions, and education systems in the Global South.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to individual, gender, and cultural differences.
- Exposure to international development initiatives.
- Writing, reviewing, and editing documents.
- Synthesis and analysis of research findings.
- Managing and developing databases.
- Experience with developing communications materials is an asset.
- Experience working in a developing country is an asset.
- Experience with gender-based analysis is an asset.
- Strong internet research skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including accuracy and attention to details.
- Strong interpersonal skills, tact, and discretion.
- Good judgment, initiative, and ability to set priorities and to organize independent work.
- Strong ability to conduct research, to and to analyze complex issues.
- Ability to work independently and with others as an effective and cooperative team member.
- Sound knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
