The Italian Trade Commission (ITC) is seeking applicants for the temporary position of Assistant Trade Analyst for the Food Sector at its Montreal Office.

The role of the Assistant Trade Analyst will be to support the Trade Analyst team for the food sector. This job offer is for a temporary position created to substitute a staff member currently on a leave of absence. Should said staff member return to work prior to the expiration of the contract with the Assistant Trade Analyst, the latter’s contract will end prematurely with a two weeks’ advance notice.

The position allows the successful candidate to enter a lively and dynamic work environment, with ample opportunities to develop a range of professional skills by training on the job and work experience.

  • Visa status - either Canadian citizen or visa already obtained; the ITC will not sponsor any employees directly or indirectly.
  • Level - Entry, 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Education - Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in a relevant discipline, such as Marketing, Business Administration, Public Policy, Communication).
  • Languages - Proficiency in English and French; Italian would be a plus (reading, writing and speaking).
  • The position is temporary and full-time, i.e. 35 hours a week in presence at ITC’s office in Montreal, Canada. No remote work arrangements are envisaged.
  • Salary and compensation will be commensurate with experience and up to 4,300 CAD per month, with an end of contract bonus of up to a month’s salary per year worked, depending on performance.
  • Contract duration – Up to 6 months.

Duties & Responsibilities of the Assistant Trade Analyst (ATA)

  • Assisting and promoting Italian companies in the Canadian market and occasionally assisting Canadian companies that want to do business with Italy through personalized services (information, marketing support and development of business networks).
  • Conceptualizing, designing, budgeting and organizing promotions planned in the ITA Agency's activity programs or upon request by specific clients, with full or partial responsibility for the various organizational aspects of each project.
  • Monitoring business opportunities through multi-channel databases and information tools, participation in webinars, conferences and networking events.
  • Maintaining contacts with third parties and involved agencies, which may require calling prospective clients or suppliers involved in marketing campaigns.
  • Carrying out office and administrative work such as requests for quotations, contracts or reports.
  • Production of marketing and market analysis content and materials.
  • Updating databases and websites and implementation of multi-channel promotional campaigns, including through social media.
  • Organization of business trips for delegates of Italian companies to Canada, as well as of Canadian business delegates to Italy.
  • Traveling domestically and internationally, if required.
  • Other specific tasks assigned by the supervisors or the office’s management.

Requirements

  • Education: University Degree, preferably in a relevant discipline, such as Marketing, Business Administration, Communication, Public Policy, Law.
  • Languages: Proficiency in French, English; proficiency in Italian would be a plus.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years’ experience gained in a similar role.
  • Additional skills and requirements: Proficiency in MS Office, Internet, Email, Google Suite and social media; ability to manage time, plan, prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; meticulous work ethic with attention to detail; adaptability, initiative and flexibility; professional appearance and demeanor.

Conditions of Employment

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada, i.e. be a Canadian citizen or have Permanent Residency status in Canada. The Italian Trade Commission will not sponsor any employees directly or indirectly.

Selection Procedure

Only candidates who meet the requirements will be invited to move forward in the selection process. The selected candidates will be convened for a written exam to be held on August 28, 2024 at a location in Montreal, consisting of tests about the use of office productivity software, translations, and composition exercises. Candidates who can demonstrate the ability to speak Italian may earn additional points.

Shortly thereafter, candidates who reach at least 60% of the points assigned to the written test will be invited for an interview, via videoconference or in person, at the ITC’s premises in Montreal.

This selection could be suspended and/or canceled at any moment and for any or no reason by ITC at its sole discretion.
