Job Responsibilities:

  • Providing technical automation support for operations of all types (planned or unplanned).
  • Participating in the selection, testing and validation of new automated equipment that will be used on production lines.
  • Making existing systems more reliable.
  • Supervising the programming of PLCs and human/machine interfaces (HMI).
  • Supporting the organizational strategy for bitumen plants.
  • Ensuring that essential knowledge and skills are maintained and improved as operational needs evolve.
  • Managing and ensuring the reliability of technical support for automation systems.
  • Carrying out periodic preventive audits of automation systems.
  • Scheduling new projects from the industrial team (must take into account the project team’s specifications).
  • Working in collaboration with plant technicians and project managers on everything related to the optimization, development and implementation of automated equipment (existing and new).
  • Collaborating with the health and safety department to make equipment safe according to recommendations.
  • Working in collaboration with the IT department to ensure proper functionality of industrial IT equipment.
  • Developing and maintaining a continuous improvement plan based on the condition of automated equipment.
  • Optimizing the spare parts management strategy.
  • Fostering communication among team members and maintaining or improving team spirit.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in automated production engineering or equivalent experience.

Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of industrial computing, automation and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in basic Windows applications.
  • Understanding of computer capabilities.
  • Understanding of basic settings and capabilities of industrial equipment that can be connected to a computer network.
  • Knowledge of software such as Unity, Citect, AutoCAD, Vijeo Designer, DSE890, and TwidoSuite.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) – An asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent travel within Canada and to the United States. Visits to SOPREMA facilities across North America.
  • Availability according to the schedule set to answer service calls.

Physical Requirements:

  • Mainly office work on a computer.
  • Work in an industrial environment during commissioning. Exposed to varied work environments. Protective equipment is mandatory.
  • Vigilance, thorough knowledge of facilities, and situational analysis coupled with strong safety leadership are paramount.
