This leader will be responsible for the strategic human resource planning to position the JD Canada organization as the Employer of Choice by driving change, best in class programs, practices and solutions that result in high performance culture. The Director of People will develop and drive organizational effectiveness and support the executive leadership team on all major initiatives, including instilling JD Group best practices into the culture and People operations by partnering with JD US People leadership on the North America People strategy. The Director will develop and implement the company’s human resources business plan, establishing accountability, identifying solutions to resolve problems, and fostering a diverse workplace that enables all employees to contribute to the organization at their full potential by performing the following main duties:

Partners with the Canada executive leadership team to develop enterprise talent strategies and supports the JD North America People strategy through leadership of total rewards, performance management, employee relations, talent acquisition, HR operations and learning/development.
Acts as a strategic HR business partner to the JD Canada executive team, as well as lead initiatives to provide exceptional business partnering support for the full JD Canada organization. Translates the strategic and tactical business plans into HR strategic and operational plans.
In partnership with executive leadership, holds responsibility for leading critical JD cultural initiatives and values for JD Canada, with a focus on internal growth, diversity, equity and inclusion, employer branding, employee engagement, attraction and retention of high performing talent, and effective communication, all to create an optimal, best-in-class employee experience.
Works with JD US People leadership to understand the continental and global People Strategy, scale said strategy to fit the JD Canada business model, and infuse best practices, processes, procedures, policies, and culture into JD Canada.
Drives progressive learning & development practices to drive organizational performance, inclusive of partnership with continental and global L&D leadership to infuse JD learning programs into JD Canada.

Leads HR technology and data initiatives, with progressive and innovative technology strategies. In particular, manages the human resources technology and enablement platforms and provides talent data and analytics that drive effective and efficient outcomes
Holds responsibility for oversight and development of policies and practices that meet legal standards, drive ethical and respectful behaviors across, and mitigate organizational risk.
Leads thorough and responsive investigations on employee complaints, whistleblowing matters and other inquiries to quickly resolve employee issues; instills compliance policies and practices - all to ensure an epitome employee experience, while mitigating risk to the organization.
Leads senior leadership succession planning.
Evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items affect the attraction, motivation, development and retention of the people resources of the organization.
Manages the budget and other financial measures of the HR department.
Evaluates the HR department organization structure and plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as for providing individuals with professional and personal growth opportunities.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and performance managing employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Additional duties and projects as required.

Completed degree from a college or university and at least 8-10 years related experience of progressive human resources leadership required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience within human resources should be multifaceted and include working leadership experience of all human resources functions, including benefits, HR technology, compensation, employee relations, learning, organizational development, talent acquisition and payroll.
Experience in influencing and business partnering with senior executive leadership required.
Proven track record of managing, directing and developing staff. Advanced relevant education and/or HR certifications is a plus.

Required Computer and/or Technical Skills
Should have intermediate to advanced knowledge and abilities with Microsoft Office and/or Google platform, and competence in learning how to maximize the use of HR technologies.
Strong understanding of comp, payroll and payroll compliance
