Our client, a prominent player in the defense sector, is in search of a dynamic and visionary Vice President of Engineering. The ideal candidate will possess the expertise to lead and inspire multiple engineering divisions, driving technological advancements and ensuring the highest quality in mission systems. As a key leader within the organization, the VP of Engineering will report to the General Manager and work closely with senior management to meet objectives and establish long-term goals, strategies, plans, and policies.



Responsibilities:
  • Technical Oversight:
  • Provide technical oversight of customer and Independent Research and Development (IRAD) programs.
  • Review and assess technical project performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and airworthiness regulations, including sign-off on all Design Certificates.
  • Maintain regulatory and legislative compliance.
  • Cost Estimation and Risk Assessment:
  • Oversee engineering cost estimation for bids and ongoing projects.
  • Conduct technical risk assessments for bids and throughout project lifecycles.
  • Resource Management:
  • Ensure the availability of appropriate personnel for customer-funded projects, IRAD, bid and proposal initiatives, and other planned activities.
  • Balance the priority of different requests to meet overall organizational needs.
  • Talent Management and Development:
  • Lead talent management efforts, including hiring, retention, performance feedback, mentoring, and career development planning for engineering personnel.
  • Process and Procedure Improvement:
  • Identify, develop, and implement process and procedure improvements to meet current and emergent engineering requirements.
  • Align improvements with Group and Strategic Business Unit initiatives and engineering best practices.
  • Tool and Equipment Provision:
  • Ensure the provision of required engineering tools and equipment in support of improved processes.
  • Operations Collaboration:
  • Work with Operations to streamline the Engineering to Manufacturing handover process.
  • Establish and maintain Design for Manufacturing principles.
  • Budgeting and Strategic Input:
  • Support the annual budgeting process for all facets of engineering, including tools, training, continuous improvement, recruiting/retention, etc.
  • Provide input to the CTO for technology roadmap development.
  • Contribute to the development of the company's vision and strategic plan.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven track record of leadership in managing multiple engineering divisions, preferably in the defense/naval/aerospace industry.
  • Strong mentoring and coaching abilities to develop high-performing teams.
  • Experience in hiring and mentoring senior management teams.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
