About the Role:
Global News Winnipeg is looking for a Manager, News and Content. Reporting to the News Director, the Manager, News and Content will guide editorial decision making for news, across all platforms. The successful candidate will be required to work primarily weekdays, with weekend and evening work as required. If you have a positive, can-do attitude, a passion for local News, and are ready to lead an award-winning and innovative news team in a multi-platform newsroom, then we want to hear from you.


You will contribute by:

  1. Oversee the daily editorial agenda, placing an emphasis on producing original content.
  2. Determine daily editorial priorities for Global News in Winnipeg, driving the daily story meetings and assigning process.
  3. Work with other managers focused on TV, Radio and Online throughout the day to ensure all platforms are providing market leading content to their audience.
  4. Manage content requests for Winnipeg with other stations, the Network News Desk and the Global News Live stream.
  5. Lead vetting in Winnipeg and work with the Executive Producer to ensure dynamic and engaging content is driving each daily Newscast.
  6. Monitor story development throughout the day and provide guidance to local reporters.
  7. Ensure integration between TV, Radio and online.
  8. Coordinate daily and future editorial plans.
  9. Assign and coordinate News teams during Breaking News.
  10. Coordinate resources for all special projects and requests.
  11. Develop and maintain a high editorial standard that includes effective writing, editing, and storytelling.
  12. Supervise Digital Broadcast Journalists, Radio Anchors, Radio Reporters, Reporter Anchors, and Radio News Supervisor and oversee various operational requirements pertaining to performance, scheduling, and timesheets.
  13. Ensure proper training of new and current employees.
  14. Other duties as required.


Skills and experience you bring:

  1. Post-secondary education in broadcast journalism or a related field.
  2. Minimum 5 years working in a local Newsroom.
  3. An extensive background in broadcast news with proven understanding of News law and ethics.
  4. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in managing both broadcast and digital news platforms.
  5. An amazing attitude that will engage and motivate teams.
  6. Demonstrably strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  7. A record of creative storytelling with strong production skills.
  8. Must be able to adapt under pressure and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Must be able to handle the demands and pressure of multiple, daily deadlines for online and broadcast.
  10. A valid driver’s license.
