The Nunavut Housing Corporation is an agency of the Government of Nunavut which serves the housing needs of one of the fastest growing populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, co-ordinate, and administer housing programs to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut. NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, (www.igluliuqatigiingniq.ca) which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030.


Reporting to the Manager, Financial Services, the Senior Finance Officer – Supervisory provides accounting services such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and revenue operations. The successful candidate will ensure effective accounting controls are in place and implemented correctly, and that financial transactions, payment processes, account reconciliations and reports are conducted in a timely manner.


Key Responsibilities Of The Successful Candidate Will Also Include:

  1. Supervising the work of full-time and casual finance staff;
  2. Providing senior financial advice and support to clients and staff;
  3. Assessing and evolving financial procedures, internal controls, audit verification processes and reporting;
  4. Developing and delivering training to enhance compliance with legislation and policy;
  5. Determining needs, planning, conducting or leading ongoing and ad hoc projects;
  6. Advising on the correct interpretation and application of financial and applicable legislation, policy, and processes;
  7. Supervising the maintenance of accounting records and databases, and the filing, access, return, destruction and archiving of confidential and other records.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a diploma in business administration or related field with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in accounting, auditing, or a similar financial accounting area in a computerized environment. Experience supervising, mentoring, and/or providing training and/or guidance to colleagues or subordinate staff is required.


The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
