Job Summary

The Government of Nunavut is seeking a highly skilled Senior Finance Officer - Supervisory to join our team. As a key member of our Financial Services department, you will be responsible for providing accounting services, supervising finance staff, and ensuring effective accounting controls are in place.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Supervise and Manage Finance Staff: Lead a team of finance professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure they meet their responsibilities.
  2. Provide Financial Advice and Support: Offer expert financial guidance to clients and staff, ensuring they understand and comply with financial policies and procedures.
  3. Develop and Implement Financial Procedures: Assess and evolve financial procedures, internal controls, and audit verification processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  4. Train and Develop Staff: Develop and deliver training programs to enhance staff knowledge and skills, ensuring they are equipped to meet the demands of the role.
  5. Lead Projects and Initiatives: Determine needs, plan, conduct, or lead ongoing and ad-hoc projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  6. Supervise Accounting Records and Databases: Oversee the maintenance of accounting records and databases, ensuring they are accurate, up-to-date, and secure.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A diploma in business administration or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience in accounting, auditing, or a similar financial accounting area in a computerized environment.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and/or providing training and/or guidance to colleagues or subordinate staff.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment.
