About the Role:

The Government of Nunavut is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Finance Officer – Supervisory to join our team in Financial Services. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing accounting services, ensuring effective accounting controls, and conducting financial transactions in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise and Manage Finance Staff: Supervise the work of full-time and casual finance staff, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful completion of tasks and projects.
  2. Provide Financial Advice and Support: Provide senior financial advice and support to clients and staff, ensuring that financial procedures and policies are followed.
  3. Develop and Implement Financial Procedures: Assess and evolve financial procedures, internal controls, audit verification processes, and reporting to ensure compliance with legislation and policy.
  4. Train and Develop Staff: Develop and deliver training to enhance compliance with legislation and policy, and to improve the skills and knowledge of finance staff.
  5. Lead Projects and Initiatives: Determine needs, plan, conduct, or lead ongoing and ad hoc projects, ensuring that they are completed on time and within budget.
  6. Advise on Financial Matters: Advise on the correct interpretation and application of financial and applicable legislation, policy, and processes.
  7. Maintain Accounting Records: Supervise the maintenance of accounting records and databases, and the filing, access, return, destruction, and archiving of confidential and other records.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a diploma in business administration or a related field, with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in accounting, auditing, or a similar financial accounting area in a computerized environment. Experience supervising, mentoring, and/or providing training and/or guidance to colleagues or subordinate staff is required.

Language and Cultural Competencies:

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English, and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
