OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Director Human Resources and working from our Winnipeg Empress Street Office, the Human Resources Coordinator provides assistance with day-to-day HR functions and maintaining the recruitment database, Human Resource Management System (HRMS), personnel files and salary and benefits. This position is responsible for collecting and recording data and generating reports with discretion, accuracy and integrity. Will also manage the Workplace Health & Safety Program and the coordination of the pension and benefit program for SCO.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides assistance with Human Resources Departmental processes.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive personnel records.
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection processes.
  • Inform employees about policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, and opportunities.
  • Prepare formal communications to employees for review.
  • Assist with benefits and pension administration.
  • Coordinate the WSH program.
  • Respond to internal and external Human Resources related inquiries from staff, department managers, and other parties.
  • Distribute HR policies, procedures and memorandums to the appropriate individuals, and departments across the organization.
  • Draft general forms, letters, reports and memos as necessary.
  • Assist with ensuring organization wide compliance with policies, procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Assist with onboarding of new employees.
  • Receive and distribute all forms of HR communications.
  • Assist with regular research and compliance initiatives regarding Human Resources issues.
  • Keep accurate and complete records and forms of filed items.
  • Eliminate unnecessary and outdated materials, destroying them or transferring them to inactive storage according to file maintenance/legal guidelines.
  • Adhere to all applicable legislation such as the Human Rights Act, Labour Standards Act and Human Rights legislation.
  • Assist managers with job performance evaluations.
  • Remain current with best practices, legislative changes, and industry standards.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate in Human Resource Management from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in a human resource environment performing a broad range of Human Resource functions.
  • Experience in benefits and pension administration.
  • Experience in the administration of workplace safety and health programs and compliance.
  • Knowledge of current employment practices, human rights legislation, and the employment standards code.
  • HMIS/payroll knowledge is an asset.
  • Superior organizational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and work accurately with detailed information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Functions effectively as a team member, demonstrating emotional stability and objectivity when dealing with challenging/changing work environments.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining a keen sense of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent computer skills with direct experience in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and Windows programs Word and Excel; experience in Human Resource Information Systems considered an asset.
  • Ability to speak Dakota or Anishinaabe language an asset.
