The work you'll be involved in:

The Indigenous Workforce Specialist will be contributing to the City's goal of the realization of miyo-pimatisiwin (the good life for all). Specifically, this position develops and implements programs in response to the TRC Call to Action #92, related to employment of Indigenous People at the City of Saskatoon. Responsibilities will include:

  • Identifies, develops, recommends, and implements programs and strategies related to recruitment, promotion, career planning/mapping of Indigenous people.
  • Collaborates with internal and external parties to identify barriers, opportunities, and strategies to attract, employ and retain Indigenous people.
  • Develops, monitors, analyzes, and reports organizational metrics to monitor progress and make recommendations towards organizational goals for Indigenous employment, at all levels.
  • Works in partnership with internal leaders to review and recommend revisions to human resources strategies, goals, policies, practices, services, and programs in order to support Indigenous employment.
  • Develops and maintains an active outreach network supporting Indigenous employment.

  • Project Management success: To plan, organize and problem-solve in order to identify gaps and implement plans and programs.
  • Experience being a Change Facilitator: To understand and work with initiatives that may produce change and help others to do the same.
  • Strong Communication Skills: To express ideas and concepts effectively, orally and in writing, including formal presentations.
  • Political Acumen: To navigate complex government and organizational dynamics and power structures effectively to achieve desired outcomes.

What we are looking for:

Typically to be successful in this role, a person will have:

  • Degree in commerce, business administration, Indigenous Studies, or related field.
  • Four to six years' related experience in human resources with an emphasis on work that contributes to the successful employment of Indigenous people.
  • Considerable knowledge of Indigenous traditional and contemporary cultures, political structure, history and lived experiences.
  • Considerable knowledge of the governance of Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge of human rights, occupational health and safety and labour legislation, as well as experience working in unionized work environments.

Salary Range: to CAD per annum (2022 rates)
