Job Summary

Health Careers in Saskatchewan is seeking a skilled and compassionate Indigenous Birth Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Maternal Services department, you will provide emotional support, physical comfort, and assistance to women, their partners, and families during childbirth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide continuous emotional support and physical comfort to women, their partners, and families during childbirth.
  • Act as a liaison to Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Traditional Healers as desired by women and their families.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure culturally sensitive care.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities to promote cultural awareness and understanding.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to enhance knowledge and skills in Indigenous cultural practices and birth support.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Birth Doula Program.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Valid driver's license, where required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and history in Canada.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of physiology of birth.
