Overview:


The Manager, Human Resources (HR) is responsible for the overall operations of the HR team and its associated programs in support of corporate goals and objectives. This will be accomplished by strategically planning, evaluating and executing HR programs and overseeing the development and implementation of company policies and procedures, as well as building up a highly functional HR team.


The Manager, HR, shall also engage the organization in achieving its business and people objectives, as well as timely policy interpretation and subsequent actions to ensure that best practices are in place from a Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Relations & Development, HR Governance & Compliance, Health and Safety and Employee Relations perspective.

This role will work with a cross-section of departments, regions, and clinics across the organizations platform to develop, lead and execute the strategic initiatives in a fashion that is consistent with values.


The Manager, Human Resources has significant responsibility, influence, and importance. Many or the responsibilities will be strategic, yet many will be tactical in nature based on the needs of the organization at the time.


Responsibilities:


HR Process:

  • Lead the implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and development of the company's HR strategies and procedures.
  • Maintain HR folders, databases, and metrics for tracking purposes. Secure and maintain all employee records, ensuring completeness in documentation related to employee evaluations, discipline, training, internships, vacation, benefits, compensation, etc.
  • Respond to employee inquiries related to employment confirmations, leaves of absence, maternity leaves, LTD, and policy inquiries.
  • Ensure data quality in the company’s HR Information Systems and compliance with data governance and HR program administration.
  • Manage timeliness and key reminders and dates related to leaves, probationary periods, progressive discipline assessments, and other critical personnel dates.
  • Serve as the key contact for internal and external audits and other compliance requirements.


People Management:

• Serve as a strategic partner to senior management, offering insights and recommendations on HR-related issues to support business objectives.

  • Partner with managers and senior management to draft and deliver disciplinary letters, performance improvement plans, employee evaluations, and assist with termination processes.
  • Liaise with legal professionals to ensure compliance during disciplinary actions, terminations, and other legal risks.
  • Conduct workplace harassment investigations in accordance with provincial or federal legislation and company policy.
  • Conduct employee information and training sessions, including onboarding, exit interviews, and manager training.
  • Develop compensation best practices and market data, recommend pay practices, manage the annual wage review process, and stay updated with industry developments.
  • Develop and implement a performance evaluation process, including creating timelines, documentation, communication and implementation plan.
  • Provide HR counselling and support in performance management, workplace issue resolution, and organizational change.
  • Direct learning & development activities to ensure workforce flexibility and skills improvement.


Recruitment:

  • Assist with the company’s recruitment efforts, supporting various managers and the company’s Talent Acquisition Specialist as needed.
  • Manage the onboarding/offboarding process of company personnel across Canada, ensuring consistency and compliance with provincial, legal, and company standards.
  • Develop and implement succession planning and talent management strategies to ensure a robust pipeline of future leaders.


Benefits Administration:

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive employee records and update as required.
  • Administer employee benefits, including enrollment, changes, and termination.
  • Act as a vendor point of contact for the company’s benefit carrier.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for inquiries related to health and dental benefits and insurance coverage.
  • Participate in annual benefits review and renewal.


Health & Safety:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for workplace safety process and protocol review.
  • Manage claims and return-to-work plans.
  • Guide the development & maintenance of Health & Safety Strategies


Other:

  • Work on HR special projects supporting the company’s strategic business direction as needed.
  • Build and manage an effective HR team
  • Facilitate workgroups, teams, and meetings within a positive environment.
  • Represent the organization in lawsuits, grievances, and complaints.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Canadian provincial/municipal laws, regulations, rules, standards, and guidelines.
  • Support HR related M&A initiatives and requirements, as needed


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, HR, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 10+ years experience as an HR generalist in a multi-disciplined environment
  • Minimum 5 years people leadership experience in a fast-paced environment as a senior HR professional
  • Certified Human Resources Professional designation
  • Experience with applicable laws in Canada
  • Strong knowledge of current employment law matters,
  • Proven track record of success in staff management, benefits administration, training, and employee relations
  • Effective communication with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Superb writing and content development skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to identify developmental needs of employees and to provide coaching, mentoring, and other help
  • Excellent time management and project management skills
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts
  • Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff privacy
  • Knowledge of principles, theories, and techniques related to employee relations, personnel management, and recruitment
  • Experience with HR systems
  • Proficiency with MS Office programs
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Must be willing to travel.
