Position Overview
The Senior Group Benefits Consultant contributes to the Company’s vision of supporting the health, wellness and financial well-being of our team, our members, and their families by facilitating the overall relationship management with union local trustees overseeing trust funds for health and Wellness benefits, providing benefits consulting expertise and trust fund management support to enable trustees to make informed decisions for sustainable benefit programs.
What you will do:
Trust Management Responsibilities:
Oversee & provide strategic guidance with respect to benefit plan design.
- Develop and provide client-specific strategies to ensure ongoing competitive plan design and coverage concepts which are financially sustainable.
- Analyze, recommend, and design plan options that best balance the client's needs for a cost-effective benefits plan with appropriate funding of the plan.
- Engage in renewal negotiations and pricing of alternate plan designs for assigned clients.
Oversee the development and maintenance of strong Trustee and Union Local relationships.
- Meet with Trustees to present semi-annual/quarterly claims experience reporting, financial reporting, renewal presentations, and report on the trust fund's financial information to allow Trustees to fulfill their fiduciary obligations.
- Conduct periodic plan member update meetings.
Build strong, trusted partner relationships with all key vendors and industry stakeholders.
- Lead and provide guidance for Trust Fund Relationship Managers for the management of ongoing relationships with key service providers, including assessing plan renewals, product enhancements and pricing negotiations.
- Arrange/coordinate plan sponsor meeting activities and internal/external professional service work related to the ongoing operation of the retirement program and pension Trust Fund in partnership with the Head of Group Retirement Solutions
Technical Leadership Responsibilities:
- Providing technical guidance and training to peers in the Trust Management Team
- Support peers with coaching and mentorship on trust fund management activities
Ad-hoc Projects & Activities:
As a trusted team member, provides opinions, suggestions, and commentary in area of expertise
- Contributes a trust management perspective, when needed, to support special or ad hoc projects and activities.
- May serve as a leader, mentor, or specialist contributor to ad hoc projects.
- Identifies opportunities for cost reduction activities and participates in cost reduction activities with leadership.
What you will bring:
- Completion of a university degree or diploma in financial management, business administration, or human resources.
- 8 + years of experience within a group benefits industry.
- CEBS certification (GBA 1, 2, 3), or actively working towards.
- Advanced competency in Microsoft products (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.)
- Bilingual (French) is preferred.
- Ability to facilitate and manage change while demonstrating flexibility, innovation, and creativity.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Strong collaboration skills, including mentoring, coaching, developing, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Demonstrated success in negotiation, persuasion, and solutions-based service.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas and concepts, with confidence in presenting to large groups.
