Reporting to the Team Lead South, the Law Library Assistant will provide for and coordinate the delivery of administrative and operational support to the Alberta Law Libraries (ALL) team and to the information Reference and Training Services team. 

As a Law Library Assistant the responsibilities will include:

Provide basic front- line services to support clients within the Calgary Alberta Law Library. Provide general information about court forms, where to find them and what the fields mean. Provide maintenance of a relevant collections for all Alberta Law Library user groups. Provide reference support, including pro-active, timely and accurate legal information services to clients at the reference desk. Maintenance and inventory of pamphlets and/or booklets to support self-represented litigants.  Ensure effective and efficient administration for the library. Supporting the maintenance of photocopiers, including the supplies, service, repairs and including moves of machines. Provide support for courier services for the branch.  Liaising with facilities management.  Collection, sorting and distributing incoming and outgoing mail. Ensure the proper functioning of varied business and operational outputs.  Processing all cash financial transactions for monthly bank deposits.  Assisting with receiving, processing, distribution, and retention of materials as required. Completion of other duties and projects as assigned. 


To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following:

Effective listening, verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent rapport with a diverse clientele. Ability to work effectively as a team member as well as be able to work independently. Be customer service-oriented and be able to work under pressure. Be able to deal with unpredictability and diversity of questions.  Ability to reduce barriers to obtain better outcomes.  Ability to anticipate, identify and resolve problems and recognize when to consult with the Team Lead. Ability to identify work priorities and manage timeline to complete tasks within set deadlines. Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and remain flexible in a fast-paced, changing work environment. Physical ability to move library materials between shelves and pack and unpack boxes of books. Strong organizational skills with an eye for detail and accuracy.

Qualifications

High School Diploma and a minimum of three (3) years of related library or office experience.

Equivalencies may be considered:
Diploma and a minimum of one (1) year related experience, Certificate and a minimum of two (2) years related experience.

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Acrobat and MS Teams). 

Assets:
• Experience working in a library setting.
• Post-secondary Library Technician Diploma.
• Experience with legal information resources and materials.
• Experience applying library principles, practices, procedures, and systems.
• Experience using technology applications including video-conference systems, integrated library systems (Voyager) and/or other database applications, searching online databases and the internet.

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
