Role Responsibilities

The Energy Transition Division under the Ministry of Energy and Minerals is currently seeking to hire an agile and driven Senior Policy Analyst who is passionate about leading policy files and possesses exceptional research and analytical skills.

Reporting to the Energy Transition Manager, the Senior Policy Analyst will work with cross-ministry partners, intergovernmental partners, associations, and industry to support key initiatives targeted at energy transition sectors, including critical minerals.

Further to the deliverable outlined above, the Senior Policy Analyst, Energy Transition will also be responsible for:

Policy Development and Legislative Support: Lead the creation of expert advice and recommendations for Alberta’s energy transition priorities including innovative policies and programs to support the growth of Alberta's critical minerals sector. Identify policy gaps, analyze research, anticipate challenges, mitigate concerns, and advocate for program priorities. Strategic Research and Advisory: Perform complex research and analysis related to market developments, new technologies, and industry changes and how they may impact Alberta in the energy transition space to facilitate provision of expert, and sound advice to senior management required for the development of key policies, legislation, and regulations. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate and occasionally lead departmental and stakeholder teams, working groups, and/or committees on projects and initiatives as well as communicating and informing key stakeholders of relevant information that support that support the branch's broader goals, objectives, and strategies  Project Management: Lead and manage multiple policy development and implementation projects to ensure effective delivery of the Government of Alberta’s strategic objectives regarding Energy Transition. Issue Analysis and Advisory: Facilitate issue identification and risk management for Alberta's energy transition policy framework and render accurate advice to Branch Leadership on existing and emerging issues.  Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to optimize policy development and implementation across the Branch. Reporting: Lead and collaborate in the development of research reports, position papers, presentations, project management plans, briefings and other documents related to Ministry issues, strategy and policy initiatives, projects and issues for consideration by: Government committees, the Branch Management Team Executive, the Deputy Minister of Energy and Minerals, the Minister of Energy and Minerals or Cabinet as appropriate.
