About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mental Health and Addictions Nurse to join our team at Home and Community Care Support Services. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing expert clinical advice and support to educators and other stakeholders in the district school boards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide medical consultation to educators regarding issues related to medication management for students, particularly those with complex medical conditions concurrent with mental illness or addictions.
  • Liaise with children's mental health agencies and primary care practitioners as required to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Support educators to meet the complex medical and mental health needs of students who require extra supports for health and/or safety concerns of self and/or others.
  • Advise educators on potential side-effects of different classes of medications and provide guidance on best practices for medication management.
Requirements
  • Membership, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Fluent in English and French an asset.
  • 2+ years of recent clinical experience in providing mental health and/or addictions services for children and youth.
  • Knowledge of the mental health and addictions service system for children and youth.
  • Advanced assessment and diagnostic reasoning skill.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid knowledge of healthcare-related legislation and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, assessment, decision-making skills, and high flexibility required.
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to work independently and co-operatively in a busy multidisciplinary environment.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Proficient in a Windows environment.
