Mental Health and Addictions Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mental Health and Addictions Nurse to join our team at Home and Community Care Support Services. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing expert clinical advice and support to educators and other stakeholders in the district school boards.
Key Responsibilities- Provide medical consultation to educators regarding issues related to medication management for students, particularly those with complex medical conditions concurrent with mental illness or addictions.
- Liaise with children's mental health agencies and primary care practitioners as required to ensure seamless care coordination.
- Support educators to meet the complex medical and mental health needs of students who require extra supports for health and/or safety concerns of self and/or others.
- Advise educators on potential side-effects of different classes of medications and provide guidance on best practices for medication management.
- Membership, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Fluent in English and French an asset.
- 2+ years of recent clinical experience in providing mental health and/or addictions services for children and youth.
- Knowledge of the mental health and addictions service system for children and youth.
- Advanced assessment and diagnostic reasoning skill.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Solid knowledge of healthcare-related legislation and practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, assessment, decision-making skills, and high flexibility required.
- Effective time management skills, with the ability to work independently and co-operatively in a busy multidisciplinary environment.
- A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Proficient in a Windows environment.
