Director of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility

The Office of Equity and Anti-Racism (OEA) is seeking a visionary leader to champion and lead the development of strategies and programs that promote the Government of Nova Scotia as a place where individuals, at all levels of the organization, are respected and valued for their differences and contributions.

About the Role

  • Reporting to the Executive Director, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA), you will lead a strong, dynamic team of professionals committed to making the Nova Scotia Public Service a better place to work.
  • You will be responsible for providing corporate leadership and strategic EDIA expertise in the areas of employment equity, barrier identification, action planning, measurement, and evaluation.
  • You will work to establish a systems-based approach, ensuring an equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility lens is applied in corporate human resource strategies, programs, and policies.

About the Team

  • The OEA works across government with partners, communities, and public service employees to help lead and support government's equity and anti-racism initiatives.
  • The team is energetic, positive, and determined to make a difference by applying a collaborative government approach.

About the Opportunity

  • This is a TERM employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of September 30, 2025.
  • The appointment status is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies and programs that promote equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in the Nova Scotia Public Service.
  • Lead a team of professionals to achieve the goals and objectives of the OEA.
  • Provide corporate leadership and strategic EDIA expertise in the areas of employment equity, barrier identification, action planning, measurement, and evaluation.
  • Establish a systems-based approach to ensure an equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility lens is applied in corporate human resource strategies, programs, and policies.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary or graduate degree in a related and relevant field (or an acceptable equivalency).
  • Substantial years of progressive leadership experience supporting Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility initiatives and/or teams.
  • Experience in demonstrating the value of a diverse and respectful workforce.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of issues impacting diverse equity communities.
  • Ability to lead major initiatives, policy, or strategy development.
  • Ability to move fluidly between work at the individual, group, and systems level.

Working Conditions

  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
  • May be required to work overtime on occasion.

Pay Grade: EC 13

Salary Range: $4, $5,069.81 Bi-Weekly
