What can I expect to do in this role?In this role, you will:

  • Provide strategic economic development advice and expertise
  • Lead the identification and analysis of competitiveness in Ontario including innovation, talent and other economic development areas
  • Lead the development and execution of provincial policy, draft legislation, regulations, action plans, and strategies
  • Prepare briefing notes and Cabinet and Treasury Board submissions
  • Develop relationships, partnerships, and stakeholder networks
  • Lead analytical projects focusing on Ontario's competitiveness
  • Represent the ministry and province at inter-jurisdictional and international conferences
How do I qualify?Technical Knowledge:

  • You have deep domain expertise regarding national and international business climates economic indicators, innovation and advanced technologies, and business development issues that affect competitiveness and economic development in the province
  • You have the ability to become familiar with decision-making structures in public sectors and legislative approvals and allocations processes
  • You have knowledge of policy development principles/processes
Strategic Advice and

Relationship Management Skills:

  • You can provide expertise and strategic advice to executive management on opportunities, initiatives, and issues
  • You have consultation skills and political acuity to develop stakeholder relationships and partnerships
  • You have consensus-building skills to lead discussions and working groups reflecting diverse interested and areas of expertise
Communication and Presentation Skills:

  • You have oral communication skills to brief senior management on issues
  • You have written communication skills to prepare evidence-based analysis, briefing papers, and Cabinet and Treasury Board submissions
  • You are proficient with spreadsheets, database, and statistical analysis software
Analytical and Project Management Skills:

  • You understand program analysis techniques, research tools, and evidence-based data analysis processes
  • You have analytical skills to synthesize information, analyze issues from a corporate perspective and reflect consistency/integration
  • You can seek out new ideas, develop innovations, conduct risk assessments and create strategic solutions
  • You have project management skills to design, plan and manage policy development
