Job Summary:

As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the laboratory team in the collection, preparation, and analysis of specimens. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and label blood and other specimens according to Fraser Health policies.
  • Prepare specimens for analysis by centrifuging, aliquoting, and distributing specimens by priority.
  • Perform clerical duties, including computer data entry for patient information and test results.
  • Clean, operate, and maintain equipment, including temperature checks on fridges, incubators, autoclaves, and water bath.
  • Prepare reagents, media, and specimen collection material, and distribute as required.
  • Load specimens for analysis on barcode-enhanced automated and semi-automated equipment.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program.
  • One year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to type 25 wpm.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
