Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services (PLMS). As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the laboratory team by preparing specimens for testing, verifying specimen information, and processing test requisitions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare specimens for testing by performing duties such as centrifugation, aliquoting, and loading samples.
  • Verify specimen type and assign laboratory numbers to specimens in accordance with established procedures.
  • Process test requisitions by entering patient data into computer systems and obtaining or clarifying missing information.
  • Respond to requests for test results and direct requests according to established procedures.
  • File and organize records, such as requisitions and statistical information.
  • Identify and communicate operational issues and computer/equipment-related problems to supervisor.
Requirements
  • Grade 12, medical terminology, and two years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to keyboard at 25 wpm.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
