Seeking a Laboratory Assistant to perform specimen collection, preparation, and testing, as well as related clerical functions in a hospital laboratory setting.

The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for collecting blood and other specimens, preparing them for analysis, and performing clerical duties such as data entry and communication of test results. The role also involves operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, preparing reagents and media, and transporting specimens for storage and analysis.

The ideal candidate will have a Grade 12 education, completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program, and one year of recent experience in a related field. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collects blood and other specimens and prepares them for analysis
  • Performs clerical duties such as data entry and communication of test results
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment
  • Prepares reagents and media
  • Transports specimens for storage and analysis
  • Assists with gross exams and stains, mounts, and labels slides
  • Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment and work areas
  • Provides assistance with ECG testing and other related duties

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 education and completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program
  • One year of recent experience in a related field
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
