**Laboratory Assistant, Pre Post Analysis** **Job Summary:** Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform tests, and maintain a clean and safe work environment in a hospital laboratory setting.

Laboratory Assistant, Pre Post Analysis, is a key role in the Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services at Surrey Memorial Hospital. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, performing tests, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment in a hospital laboratory setting.

**Responsibilities:** * Collect blood and other specimens and label with relevant information according to Fraser Health policies * Prepare specimens for analysis by centrifuging, aliquoting, and distributing specimens by priority * Perform clerical duties, including computer data entry for patient information and tests * Communicate test results to designated parties and handle inquiries from other health team members * Clean, operate, and maintain equipment, including temperature checks on fridges, incubators, autoclaves, and water bath * Prepare reagents, media, and specimen collection material and distribute as required * Load specimens for analysis on barcode-enhanced automated and semi-automated equipment * Perform laboratory tests, such as urine dipsticks and glucose tests, using urinalysis machines and glucose meters * Maintain a clean and safe work area according to established policies and procedures * Assist with clerical functions, such as counting inventory and notifying staff of inventory levels * Schedule and book appointments and enter and verify patient registration information as required * Provide assistance as required by performing ECG testing by attaching electrodes to patients and operating equipment according to standard procedures **Requirements:** * Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program, plus one year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience * Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing * Ability to deal with others effectively * Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position * Ability to organize work * Ability to operate related equipment * Ability to keyboard at 25 w.p.m. * Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan, and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study * Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act * Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism, and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments **What We Offer:** * Join one of BC's largest employers with province-wide programs, services, and operations * Access to professional development opportunities through our in-house training programs * Comprehensive benefits package, including municipal pension plan, and psychological health & safety programs and holistic wellness resources * Annual statutory holidays (13) with generous vacation entitlement and accruement * PHSA is a remote work-friendly employer, welcoming flexible work options to support our people * Access to WorkPerks, a premium discount program offering a wide range of local and national discounts on electronics, entertainment, dining, travel, wellness, apparel, and more **About Us:** Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services (PLMS) provides laboratory testing at 31 sites across the lower mainland and central coast of BC, including acute care hospital laboratories and specialty laboratories.
