Job Summary
The UBC Centre for Disease Control (UBC CDC), the academic arm of the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), is seeking an equity-focused and highly qualified applicant for the Indigenous Research Advisor position. Under the supervision of the scientific lead of the Provincial Overdose Cohort, the Research Advisor will be responsible for advising BCCDC's work in response to the overdose public health emergency in BC.

Organizational Status
The Indigenous Research Advisor will report to the scientific lead of the Provincial Overdose Cohort. The position will work collaboratively with other team members including research assistants, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, as well as internal and external partners of the Provincial Overdose Cohort.

Work Performed

• Providing guidance from an Indigenous perspective on the design, modification and development of research proposals and projects that evaluate the Risk Mitigation Guidance (RMG) and peer-led initiatives addressing the overdose crisis in BC

• Participating in data development, project planning and execution

• Attending meetings to define strategy, goals, and scope of research projects for the Provincial Overdose Cohort

• Providing input into recruiting participants, conducting surveys, and extracting data based on lived/living experiences

• Advising on analysis of data and interpretation of analysis results

• Preparing, composing, editing and proofing documents such as grant applications, contracts, academic proposals and manuscripts, and scientific communications

• Performing other duties as required

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Indigenous Research Advisor makes professional decisions and recommendations on all aspects of the work and is responsible for the quality. Poor judgement or errors could result in delayed completion of projects or misinterpretation of information disseminated to leadership and decision-makers.

Supervision Received
The Indigenous Research Advisor works under general direction of the scientific lead of the Provincial Overdose Cohort within established policies, procedures and standards. Work reviewed against task objectives and conformity to standards.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
