About Us:
Community Living British Columbia (CLBC) is a Crown corporation dedicated to providing essential supports and services for adults with developmental disabilities and their families. Our mission is to foster lives filled with possibilities in welcoming communities.
Our Commitment:
CLBC is dedicated to building meaningful relationships with Indigenous individuals, communities, agencies, and governments. We are focused on:
- Encouraging qualified Indigenous individuals to apply for positions at CLBC by identifying and eliminating barriers.
- Building trust with Indigenous communities to understand their strengths and needs, and how CLBC can assist.
- Reconnecting Indigenous adults living outside their home communities.
- Enhancing the cultural competency of CLBC staff to effectively engage with Indigenous peoples.
The Role:
As an Indigenous Relations Practice Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in promoting cultural safety within CLBC and shaping strategies for Indigenous community inclusion across the sector. This position involves providing leadership throughout the province, collaborating with Head Office Departments and Regional Operations to develop innovative strategies that strengthen CLBC's relationships with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit partners, as well as Urban Indigenous agencies and communities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Enhancing CLBC's capacity to understand and address the needs of Indigenous individuals and their families, whether they reside within or outside Indigenous communities.
- Offering practice consultation and planning guidance to regional operations staff through an Indigenous cultural lens.
- Coordinating training sessions at the team or regional level.
- Providing expert knowledge for the implementation of cross-government policy agreements.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- A flexible approach, capable of transitioning from support to project leadership while effectively addressing local issues.
- A comprehensive understanding of BC Indigenous issues, including the history and impact of residential schools and the intersection of disability with culture.
- Familiarity with the structure and operation of developmental disability supports and services in BC.
- An understanding of various learning styles and communication strategies.
- Knowledge of Indigenous meeting protocols, including circles and elder participation.
- Experience in program and policy development.
- Insight into trauma-informed practices and Indigenous-specific anti-racism.
Education and Experience:
Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of five years of experience working within government systems and with Indigenous Peoples in the community. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Additional Information:
This position may require occasional overnight travel, and candidates must possess a valid class 5 driver's license and a clean driver's abstract. A hybrid work model is available, allowing for a combination of on-site office work and remote work after a probationary period.
CLBC is committed to ensuring our recruitment process is accessible to individuals with diverse abilities and encourages applications from all equity-seeking groups.
