The role of a Telecommunication Field Engineer at Canonical

Dive into the world of software-defined telecommunication services with Canonical. As part of our team, you will play a crucial role in guiding operators and service providers through the intricacies of adopting OpenStack, Kubernetes, and software-defined networking solutions.

At Canonical, we are dedicated to empowering operators to navigate the shift towards VNF/CNF approaches by leveraging platforms such as Ubuntu, OpenStack, and Kubernetes. Your expertise in open-source technologies will be instrumental in helping customers build advanced infrastructure to meet the evolving demands of 5G and beyond. This hands-on role will see you designing and implementing cutting-edge solutions for our clients.

Location: Remote-based, Americas

What a day in this role entails
  • Align customer requirements with advanced capabilities in the telco space
  • Provide technical consulting to Service Provider teams
  • Design and roll out telco-grade open-source cloud solutions
  • Deploy cloud solutions for customers using OpenStack, Kubernetes, MAAS, and Ceph
  • Investigate and resolve software defects discovered during deployments
  • Showcase expertise in Infrastructure as code techniques for telco automation
  • Explore model-driven operations using Juju for various services
  • Assist customers in adopting diverse cloud solutions
  • Drive product improvements based on customer feedback
  • Contribute to shaping the telco market roadmap
Desired qualifications
  • Experience in Python software development (intermediate level required)
  • Familiarity with telco NFVi (VIM), NFVO, VNFM, and MEC
  • Technical knowledge of key telco technologies like CPU Pinning, NUMA, SRIOV, and DPDK
  • Understanding of MNOs and CSPs architectures and infrastructure
  • Knowledge of Mobile Packet Core, Radio, VAS, OSS/BSS
  • Experience in open-source technology best practices for telco virtualization
  • Proficiency in Linux, OpenStack, and Kubernetes networking
  • Passion for automating open-source products and tools
  • Ability to lead end-to-end complex projects
  • Strong focus on customer success and effective communication
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% for various engagements
