About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing in our laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform various functions relating to specimen procurement, receipt, and processing, including data entry, media preparation, sterilization, and clerical duties.
  • Load specimens on an analyzer and perform troubleshooting activities.
  • Manage supplies, interact with stakeholders, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Work independently, use good judgment, and maintain a professional appearance.

Requirements:

  • Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and current registration with CSMLS.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects.
  • Ability to accurately number and label specimens and file slides and requisitions.
  • Ability to adapt to updates and changes in operating procedures.
  • Basic computer skills, with Meditech experience preferred.
  • Access to reliable transportation, as travel may be required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, with French preferred.
