Lead Line Maintenance Planner responsible for implementing and improving maintenance planning and scheduling systems, coaching line teams, and providing continuity links to other Progressive Maintenance systems.

Job Title: Line Maintenance Lead / Planner About the Role

The Line Maintenance Lead / Planner plays a critical role in implementing and continuously improving the maintenance planning and scheduling (MPS) and breakdown elimination (BDE) daily management system (DMS) for their area. This position requires strong leadership and technical skills to coach line teams and provide a continuity link to other Progressive Maintenance systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership
    • Participate in line daily direction setting (DDS) meetings and execute the daily plan, reporting on results for the previous 24 hours, including:
      • Maintenance planning and scheduling (MPS) in-process measure
      • Number of breakdowns and insights from completed planned maintenance cards / maintenance logs
      • Review of defects
  • Planning and Scheduling Maintenance Work
    • Review and prioritize SAP work orders and notifications within 24 hours of generation
    • Ensure the work order backlog is current and sorted for reporting, and manage how best to meet the compelling business need (CBN)
    • Manage planned maintenance work using SIMPTWW (safety, information, material, people, tools, where, and when)
    • Ensure the job plan archive is maintained on SAP
    • Lead the review of previous job completion results, other maintenance activities, and the current day's plan in the daily meeting; adjust plans accordingly and based upon scheduled work, scheduled work completion, and a break in work
    • Actively support and coordinate with the line lead / process lead / line team on the planned stop, incorporating SAP work orders and maintenance tasks into the plan
    • Lead the scheduling of maintenance work for the next week during the weekly planning meeting
    • Lead the scheduling of maintenance work in the monthly meeting to schedule maintenance work for the next month, as dictated by the annual maintenance plan and previously identified work
    • Lead and support the investigation of breakdowns and the implementation of corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
    • Lead optimization with the line lead / process lead of the start-up and shutdown of the line and the major maintenance interventions
    • Ensure the revision and updating of maintenance technical documentation occurs as necessary
    • Create one point lessons (OPLs), and train and qualify the line team in maintenance activities
    • Develop and update the annual maintenance plan and calendar
  • Tracking and Reporting Maintenance Indicator Results and In-Process Measures
    • Ensure maintenance output and in-process measures are tracked and kept current
    • Drive to ensure that activities or the lack thereof that drive maintenance indicator results in the wrong direction, are corrected or are brought to the attention of the appropriate resource
    • Ensure that results of maintenance key performance indicators (KPIs) and in-process measures are used to assess the progress of the maintenance planning and scheduling (MPS) system, and to determine equipment reliability — results are shared with department leadership in the monthly meeting
    • Monitor the health of the progressive maintenance (PM) daily management system (DMS) and work systems, and put corrective actions in place with the line team:
      • Breakdown elimination (BDE)
      • Maintenance planning and scheduling (MPS)
      • Support to Autonomous Maintenance (AM): clean, inspect, lubricate (CIL); centerline (CL); defect handling (DH); including being the AM Step 4 subject matter resource (SMR)
      • Workshop and facilities
      • Lubrication
      • Maintenance costs
      • Parts usage and life
  • Developing Improvement Plans
    • Identify improvement through the tracking of maintenance indicators and in-process measures
    • Identify losses and improvement themes to eliminate losses
    • Owning, developing, and tracking improvement theme action plans
  • Champion and Lead the Continuous Improvement Process
    • Ensure all equipment design change proposals (corrective maintenance) and adding / deleting / modifying work follow-up change management (CM) procedures
    • Critique all work executed, and update or revise work plans, as necessary
    • Maintain technical documentation to ensure that equipment drawings and schematics are complete, accurate, easy to find, and easy to use
    • Manage the relationship that exists with the storeroom in order to identify obsolete parts, poor quality parts, ideal in-stock numbers, the required delivery time of parts, etc.
    • Update engineering drawings and standards, and feed back to the owner
    • Manage the link to engineering drawing control, and establish a maintenance technical documentation owner
    • Provide feedback to design (FtD) on any new equipment or on line speed-ups
    • Participate in vendor acceptance testing or other project work on new products or equipment
    • Participate in Progressive Maintenance (PM) Pillar work as required, and own a site PM system as required

  • Breakdown elimination (BDE) workshop
  • Maintenance management information system knowledge and storeroom skills
  • Basic PC skills
  • Knowledge of AM and PM visual standards
Environmental / Working Conditions
  • Must be able to freely move around entire facility.
  • Ability to work in and be exposed to heat.
