About the Opportunity

This role is part of the Nova Scotia Health Authority's Medical Device Reprocessing Department, responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, reassembly, function testing, and distribution of medical and/or surgical supplies and medical devices for the operating room and various areas of the hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed technical duties related to medical device reprocessing, including decontamination, sterilization, and reassembly.
  • Operate medical device reprocessing equipment and ensure proper function and maintenance.
  • Conduct quality control checks on reprocessed medical devices to ensure they meet established standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to medical device reprocessing activities.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure seamless integration of reprocessed medical devices into patient care.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an approved Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program (Course with practicum preferred).
  • Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Certification.
  • Formal education in anatomy, medical terminology, microbiology, infection control preferred.
  • Membership with the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Nova Scotia preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina to perform repetitive tasks and lift up to 30 pounds.

This role requires working in a fast-paced environment with exposure to chemicals, blood, and body fluids. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
