Job Description

The Canadian ASSC GB Valuation team is responsible for the reserve, capital for insurance and interest risks of the GB segment and provides ongoing essential support to the business. Regular projects include several ad-hoc requests related to investigations and business and/or regulatory initiatives as well as inquiry related to large sponsors.

As part of the GB Valuation team, you will have a lot of developmental opportunities, such as increasing your knowledge of key aspects of group benefits (e.g., IFRS 17, LICAT, GB product, financial arrangement) as well as your communication skills. You will have the chance to collaborate with a variety of teams across the company and gain exposure to senior management, including the Canadian Chief Actuary and GB CFO.

The role involves working closely with the GB's Valuation and Line Actuaries as well as Pricing. You will also have the chance to work with Group Finance Actuarial, Group Capital Management, IS and the Business Units Finance team.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Valuation and Line Actuaries regarding business and regulatory initiatives and special short-term and long-term projects.
  • Support financial reporting process including insurance and interest risks capital submission and associated tasks. This includes leading the analysis and investigation of results.
  • Assist requests related to the continuous support of large sponsors.
  • Plays a key role in the achievement of process improvement and best practices in valuation reporting.
  • Mentoring actuarial students/analysts supporting various initiatives and project and communicating result or recommendation to various stakeholders
  • Work with the Business Unit Finance to prepare the business plan.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of GB products, and associated reserving and capital assumptions and methodologies, as well as financial arrangements with sponsors.
Qualifications
  • Strong business acumen with ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts and results in a clear, concise, easy to understand manner.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as ability to process large amounts of information and summarize effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate, negotiate and influence effectively.
  • Ability to successfully manage projects and deliver timely result.
  • Strong professional judgment, ability to assess risks, as well as to effectively identify opportunities for improved efficiency.
  • Excellent customer focus and commitment to quality.
  • Actuarial designation (FSA, FCIA, ASA) with 5+ years of relevant experience.

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between
$84,375.00 CAD - $151,875.00 CAD
