Your Role:
Reporting to the Director of Actuarial Services, the Associate plays a crucial role in providing technical actuarial and strategic support for OMERS pension plans. You will collaborate closely with the Strategy & Actuarial team and engage with various specialists across different business units.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and review of benefit calculations requiring actuarial expertise.
- Organize and analyze membership data files for actuarial valuation purposes.
- Utilize internal actuarial valuation systems to generate necessary results for funding and projection valuations.
- Develop reports and presentation materials for senior management and boards.
- Collaborate with Finance on actuarial forecasts and with Risk on metric calculations.
- Support technical and analytical activities, including trend analyses and actuarial studies.
- Contribute to the development and testing of systems and analytical tools to enhance service delivery.
- Apply knowledge of pension plan texts and administration practices to address issues effectively.
- Review publications and communication materials for accuracy and completeness.
- Stay informed on regulatory changes and industry trends to ensure compliance and relevance.
- Uphold privacy and internal records management policies.
Qualifications:
- A university degree, preferably in actuarial science, statistics, or mathematics.
- Progress towards Associateship/Fellowship of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries is highly desirable.
- Two to five years of experience in the pension or financial industry.
- Familiarity with Canadian pension legislation.
- Strong analytical skills with a solid understanding of actuarial principles and statistical concepts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a client-service orientation.
- Proven organizational abilities with attention to detail and time management.
- A proactive approach to process improvements and a commitment to continuous learning.
- Proficiency in technology, including Excel, PowerPoint, and actuarial software.
