Job Description:

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

As a member of the Pensions Team, you will provide actuarial services in support of regulatory oversight of Ontario pension plans industry to ensure compliance with FSRA legislation, policies and professional actuarial standards.

Additional duties will include:
  • Reviewing pension plan filings and applications to determine and assess compliance with pension legislation, FSRA policies and procedures and applicable actuarial standards.
  • Providing input to the development of actuarial policies, procedures, processes and systems.
  • Providing actuarial advisory services including information, advice and recommendations related to actuarial and investment matters.
  • Providing advice in the interpretation and application of pension legislation, regulations, policies and professional actuarial standards to plan actuaries, administrators, and pension stakeholders.
  • Analyzing, monitoring and reporting on the financial health of pension plans in Ontario.
  • Leading and/or assisting in research projects related to industry trends and developments in actuarial practices and techniques, industry methodology, professional standards and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications

Mandatory Requirement:

Associate of the Society of Actuaries or Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

Specialized Knowledge and Experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fundamental actuarial principles and standards and actuarial mathematics related to the valuation of pension plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles and methodology related to financial reviews, pension fund investment management, pension plan design and funding principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant pension legislation.
Skills
  • Proven communication, persuasion and negotiation skills to give professional advice and make recommendations to senior management on actuarial issues related to the monitoring or pension plan companies and to provide actuarial reviews and opinions.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to conduct complex actuarial reviews and analyses, make projections and provide sound assessments and recommendations on actuarial review matters.
