Job Summary

This is a temporary, full-time position that will provide mental health support to clients in a provincial assessment centre. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide emotional support, counseling, and advocacy to clients with complex mental health and substance use challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor clients' progress and provide feedback to the interdisciplinary team
  • Participate in the admission, case planning, and discharge process for clients
  • Establish rapport with clients and provide emotional support and counseling
  • Assist clients with daily living activities and provide support with time management, organization, and interpersonal communication
  • Coordinate services with medical professionals and community resources
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate groups and activities to support skill development
  • Prepare and maintain client charts and enter information into a computerized database
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for clients and team members
Requirements
  • Diploma from a recognized Social Services Support Worker educational program
  • Two years' recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Valid B.C. driver's license

  • Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness
  • Knowledge of community, social, and health resources
  • Knowledge of behavior management
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and treatment
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations and manage aggressive behavior
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population
  • Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments
