This is a temporary, full-time position that will provide mental health support to clients in a provincial assessment centre. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide emotional support, counseling, and advocacy to clients with complex mental health and substance use challenges.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor clients' progress and provide feedback to the interdisciplinary team
- Participate in the admission, case planning, and discharge process for clients
- Establish rapport with clients and provide emotional support and counseling
- Assist clients with daily living activities and provide support with time management, organization, and interpersonal communication
- Coordinate services with medical professionals and community resources
- Plan, organize, and facilitate groups and activities to support skill development
- Prepare and maintain client charts and enter information into a computerized database
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for clients and team members
- Diploma from a recognized Social Services Support Worker educational program
- Two years' recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Valid B.C. driver's license
- Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness
- Knowledge of community, social, and health resources
- Knowledge of behavior management
- Knowledge of mental health issues and treatment
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients
- Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients
- Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations and manage aggressive behavior
- Ability to work with a culturally diverse population
- Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments
