Our client is one of the largest suppliers and manufacturers of construction products in North America. They are seeking a Purchaser/Buyer who will be responsible for timely inventory replenishment of all building supplies and materials purchased to support their customers’ needs.


This is a dynamic job within a large organization and experience in lumber or commodities purchasing would be considered an asset.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates all activities related to the procurement of wood products including sourcing, purchasing, delivery and invoice reviews.
  • Will be responsible for analyzing the requirements of all products, including preliminary specifications, setting up preferred suppliers, and scheduling product deliveries.
  • Keep abreast of changes affecting both the supply and demand for needed products and materials.
  • Determine the lumber demand for the next 3 months, and make other adjustments for market conditions.
  • Negotiates costs and oversees inventory balances. Must be able to manage inventory levels against the needs of customers in rapidly changing market conditions.
  • Along with our client’s buying group, the purchaser implements purchase order contracts that comply with company and government regulations.
  • Assure that all product is delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets the quality standards of our client’s organization.
  • Maintain a timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices and other documents to assure accurate retention of records.
  • Regularly monitor inventory levels and ensure, adequate inventory is available at all times.
  • Check inspection reports, invoices and approve documents for payment.
  • You will be responsible for settling all claims, defects and invoice differences.
  • Able to forecast business needs and market trends to make inventory predictions for business purposes.
  • Have the ability to work in an independent environment


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field of study
  • 3-5+ years of industry experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the lumber or construction industry
  • An energetic, highly detail-oriented team player who works well under pressure
  • Superior problem-solving skills, ability to adapt to various situations and solve conflict quickly
  • Able to multi-task and work independently, excellent time management skills
  • Business acumen, confidentiality and strong negotiation skills
  • Strong relationship-building skills to develop a deep network of contacts across and outside the organization
  • Superior English and strong verbal communications skills
  • Strong computer skills - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software/system
