Purpose:


York University, in partnership with Centennial College, has been funded by the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) to develop an innovation hub in the automotive and mobility sector.

As a key hub of commercial activities, the mandate is to enable open collaboration and innovation, especially for start-ups and small and midsize enterprises (SMEs) to develop, test, validate, and prototype new automotive, transportation and mobility technologies and solutions such as connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) technologies, shared and integrated mobility solutions, robotics, and electric vehicle solutions.


The Business Development Manager role is a dynamic and innovative role responsible for achieving new partnerships and opportunities in outreach, research, work integrated learning, and professional development activities.

The role provides feedback and intelligence from partners, such as questions, concerns, skills gaps, and needs to drive continuous improvement efforts, and initiatives for the unit.

Through generating and converting new potential employers, learners, researchers, and/or industry partners, the role maximizes partnerships and builds on opportunities and develops and maintains long-term relationships with external partners to ensure sustainability, continuity, and demand for services provided by the unit.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, such as Business Administration.

Note:
Position requires verification of degree(s)/credential(s).

Experience:

Five (5) years related experience in sales, marketing, or business management.
5-years experience within an academic, not-for-profit, government and/or industry setting fostering research and commercialization collaborations.
Experience in the automotive, transportation and mobility sector.
Experience in marketing and promoting research capabilities and technologies to industry partners.

Knowledge:

Knowledge and understanding of B2B marketing and corporate sales negotiations.
Understanding of the post-secondary education sector.
Understanding of research and other funding structures in a post-secondary environment.
Knowledge of funding and sponsorship opportunities related to partnerships and/or employment opportunities, including provincial and federal programs and incentives.
Knowledge of work-based learning.
Knowledge of the automotive and mobility sector, including public education, research, analysis, industry and thought leadership activities.
In-depth understanding of the commercialization process, including intellectual property protection, licensing, and business development.

Skills:

Effective communication skills.
Effective and collaborative interpersonal skills, including listening and questioning skills. Able to build rapport while quickly and confidently gaining respect of others.
Ability to exercise good judgment, initiative, and maintain confidentiality.

Compensation:


York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.

Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
