Eva's Turns Youth Homelessness into Home


Youth experiencing homelessness who are Black, Indigenous, 2SLGBTQ+, racialized, or newcomers are overrepresented in the population of youth experiencing homelessness.

In Canada, racism, specifically anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism, permeates society, creating social and health inequities.


To respond to the needs of homeless youth and decrease social and health inequities experienced by Black, Indigenous and racialized youth, culturally responsive supports and services must be provided.

These supports center the identities and cultures of young people and affirm their holistic identity, taking into consideration the barriers they navigate in their daily lives.

This ensures that services respond to the specific needs of youth instead of compounding the barriers they are already facing.


Eva's provides shelter, transitional housing, and health and well-being programming to help youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Toronto.

At Eva's, we help young people move from crisis to stability with the ultimate goal of moving to independence.

We work with each young person to develop an achievable action plan, attain their goals, and build strong community connections.


Role Overview
The position will report to the Director of Operations.

The person in this position will receive a regular meetings with their direct supervisor and prompt, actionable feedback on their job performance.

They will be required to attend a weekly meeting.

The Director of Operations will be responsible for day-to-day supervision and observation of the student, including determining tasks and completion, evaluating work and performance, and managing workplace expectations.

The person and the student will work together to create objectives, tasks and goals. There will be a daily check-in in-person or via remote session.

Ongoing support will be provided as well as cross-functioning exposure for professional development.

The role is a contract position for period of 4 months.

This position is located at:
Eva's Admin Office # Richmond Street West Toronto, ON M5V 3A- Answer, screen and transfer inbound phone calls

  • Receive and direct visitors and clients
  • General clerical duties, including photocopying, fax and mailing
  • Maintain an electronic and hard copy filing system
  • Handle requests for information and data
  • Resolve administrative problems and inquiries
  • Prepare written responses to routine inquiries
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings, appointments
  • Prepare agendas for meetings and prepare schedules
  • Record, compile, transcribe and distribute minutes of meetings
  • Open, sort and distribute incoming correspondence
  • Maintain office supply inventories
  • Coordinate maintenance of office equipment
  • Create an inventory of office supplies and it assets
  • Researches and recommends the most effective costpurchasing options
  • Maintain organization of ppe supplies
  • Assists in coordinating contractors/vendors
  • Assist with other tasks as required

Qualifications

  • Education related to office administration.
  • Interest in issues related to youth homelessness, fundraising, and social services.
  • Good writing and research skills
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft programs including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail

Conditions of Employment


The City of Toronto has put in place a mandatory vaccination directive for City-funded shelters, and Eva's is obligated to comply with this legislation as per our funding agreement.
