As the Technical Services Foundation Coordinator, you will provide day to day coordination of curriculum support and resources for studios and services within the University.

The Coordinator is responsible for facilitating communication between studio technicians and across Faculties to ensure effective support and resource allocation.

The Coordinator acts as a technical and administrative resource for other studio technicians, including troubleshooting student and faculty requests.

Some Typical Duties:

Oversees and coordinates the work of studio technicians in the area(s), and assigns work as needed.

Meets regularly with studio technicians to facilitate communication and to ensure curricular needs are met in an efficient and effective manner.

Provides day to day guidance to studio technicians in a variety of technical, administrative, personnel, and student related areas.

In consultation with the Manager, Technical Services, and other Coordinators, coordinates the staffing, scheduling, and delivery of workshops by studio technicians for both credit and non-credit programs.

Participates in department curricular meetings with emphasis on coordinating technical support and planning.


Works in close collaboration with faculty, academic leadership, and area staff to schedule and adapt technical support to evolving needs.

Participates in the studio technician recruitment process. Trains, provides direction, and makes recommendations for professional development. Matters of an evaluative, disciplinary, contract administration and interpretation basis are referred to the Manager.


Meets regularly with the Director and other Coordinators to ensure coordination of work activities and communication of information relevant to curriculum support and studio operations within the University.

Makes recommendations on area budget, space allocation, technical matters concerning curriculum and participates as a member of various committees. Makes recommendations to the Director regarding staffing, workspace, equipment, and procedures.


Works with the Director to plan and implement a variety of projects, including summer renovations and facilities and equipment upgrades.


Under the direction of the Director, collaborates with other Coordinators and technicians to develop all-University standards of original technical instruction, safety standards, studio scheduling, and other related matters.

Provides studio technician support within a specified curriculum area.

Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

Minimum five years' experience in a comparable technical position preferably in a post-secondary institution.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Considerable practical experience with a breadth of equipment, materials, techniques, processes, and protocols related to foundation curriculum areas.

Experience supervising employees skilled in curriculum areas.

Demonstrated experience supervising and delivering instruction.


Considerable skill in working with a range of shop and studio production (Wood working, mould making, digital production, media production) related to the area.

Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel as well curricular software.

Highly developed skills in the disciplines/functional area.

Ability to make independent decisions within policies and guidelines.


Ability to clearly communicate information and demonstrate the use of equipment to non-technical users in support of an open inclusive learning environment.

Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
