As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Mental Health Clinician is responsible for providing counseling, case management, family and group work services within a holistic, health promotion framework.

The Mental Health Clinician sees clients of the centre, with both scheduled and urgent appointments, through GCHC, outreach and home visits in the community, during regular and extended hours.


Basic Responsibilities:

  • Maximizes the functioning and independence of clients by providing psychosocial counselling services to individuals, families and groups.
  • Ensures comprehensive treatment for clients by providing information to other GCHC professionals on an ongoing basis, by participating in case conferencing, and by providing consultation on psychosocial issues to GCHC staff.
  • Ensures appropriate treatment is delivered and maintains client records, assessment notes and correspondence within the safeguard of confidentiality.
  • Contributes to the development of new programs that address community health needs. Collaborates with Guelph CHC staff and other agencies to identify, recommend and/or develop resources and materials, and participates in delivery of the program.
  • Provides leadership for appropriate community educational programs.
  • Participates in community groups and committees relating to the development and delivery of health care and social services in the community.
  • Responding to emergency response codes and helping to manage social/emotional or mental health crises that present in clinic, as well as providing walkin counselling services.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master of Social Work, or relevant postgraduate degree
  • Registered with a regulated College in Ontario which allows provision of psychotherapy.
  • Two to five years' experience in a communitybased, humanservice organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of, and proficiency in, current assessment, psychosocial counseling techniques and group work
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of community resources, preferably Guelph and Wellington County
  • Ability to set goals and get results within a set
  • Ability to multitask and work
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Effective time management, decision making and organizational
  • A good team member and supportive of interdisciplinary
  • Knowledge of privacy and confidentiality standards on Ontario, including PHIPA.
