The successful applicant will also possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will have strong attention to detail and accuracy.
This includes using techniques and strategies to communicate "I care and I respect you," providing information in a way patients and families can understand, listening to patients and families to learn what an exemplary healthcare experience means to them, and seeking their perspective throughout their stay and during improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of a recognized community college Communicative Disorders Assistant graduate certificate program required
Skill, Ability and Experience:
- Experience in a Communication Disorders Department in a clinical / health care setting preferred
- Experience in adult neurogenic communication disorders and dysphagia preferred
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written required
- Proven organizational and time management skills, with strong attention to detail and ability to effectively multitask required
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team required
- Demonstrated commitment to Patient & Family Centred Care required
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary patient care team required
- Experience working with an electronic medical record preferred
- Basic level proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred
Principal Duties:
- Conducts speech, language, cognitivecommunication and dysphagia therapy with patients as planned and managed by the Speech-Language Pathologist
- Records data relative to client performance and reports changes in client performance / status to the supervising speechlanguage pathologist
- Prepares clinical materials as required
- Maintains equipment as required
- Prepares appropriate communication aids
- Participates in unit/department and Hospital Quality Improvement initiatives
- Completes continuing education requirements as necessary
- Other related duties as assigned
