As Manager, Strategic and Public Communications, you will be responsible for the promotion of NSERC programs, services, and achievements to the media, research community, Parliamentarians, and the public.

You will conduct environmental scans of public and media attitudes and sensitivities to NSERC policies and programs and develop communications strategies to manage public issues and events.

Education


Bachelor's degree in communications, engineering or the natural sciences or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the position.

Foreign Credential Validation against Canadian Standards

Experience

[Extensive*] experience in the development and implementation of communications strategies
[Significant**] experience in the delivery of communication advice to senior managers
[Experience] managing a multi-disciplinary communications unit
[Significant**] experience interacting with members of the media

  • Extensive is equivalent to five (5) or more years of experience.

Knowledge

Knowledge of how to evaluate the impact of media relations and communications products and services
Knowledge of conventional and emerging communications techniques, trends, and processes, including social media platforms and trends
Knowledge of federal communications policies, regulations, and procedures

Knowledge of the needs and cultures of target research communities

Abilities

Ability to communicate well orally and in writing in both English and French
Ability to work and negotiate with senior officials and researchers in universities, government, and other sectors
Ability to plan media relations programs
Ability to work under pressure, to grasp developing situations quickly and to meet deadlines
Ability to lead and manage a work team in a high demand environment
