Position purpose:


Alumni Relations helps to maintain and strengthen the connection the University of Ottawa has with its global and local base of alumni and partners.

The Manager, Alumni Engagement and Strategic communication supports the Alumni Relations Director in the direction, development, planning, and implementation of pan-university and at scale programming, initiatives, and strategic communications to engage uOttawa's alumni community.

This position is critical in providing strategic leadership to all internal stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive Alumni Program across campus.


In this role, your responsibilities will include:

Strategic Planning and Implementation:

Supports the Director in the development, coordination and implementation of strategic and tactical plans for driving alumni relations strategy.

The Manager will play a crucial role in developing and helping meet alumni relations objectives, while focusing on maintaining critical relationships and achieving a positive impact across the University of Ottawa.


Partnerships:

The Manager focuses on developing and managing partnerships with faculties in relation to event programming with the objective to create a consistent and efficient alumni engagement program across the uOttawa campus.

Works closely with Alumni Relations Officers to disseminate information and leading practices around alumni programs.

Relationship Management:

Takes a hands-on approach regarding alumni engagement opportunities by establishing, enhancing and expanding internal university relationships with various clients to ensure a cohesive strategic Alumni Program.

Forms key alumni relationships to maximize representation of alumni partners and the University. Responsible for providing high quality customer service, including responding to issues and problems from clients.

Management:

With the objective to increase alumni engagement and promote the profile of the Alumni Association, manages the planning, coordination and execution of over 40 events (Alumni Week) which demands many months of preparation and collaboration Program with various stakeholders on campus.


Human Resource Management:
Coaches, mentors, trains, develops, manages and evaluates staff ensuring competent and engaged resources.

Oversees the work of direct reports by facilitating and tracking project status, identifying problems and issues, allocating appropriate resources, and ensuring that projects and events are completed on schedule and at the highest levels of quality.


Budget Management:
Manages operating budget of the Alumni Relations Office and of the complex financial plan of the Alumni Association. Meets with the executive board members of the Association to review the annual budget and obtain approval. Submits budget updates to senior management.

What you will bring:

Bachelor's degree in communications or public relations or equivalent education and experience

Minimum of 7 years of program development and/or alumni relations experience with a proven track record of achievement and success

Experience working in the post-secondary education sector is preferred

A strategic, conceptual, and lateral thinker with the ability to execute strategy effectively; strong team player who is committed to working collaboratively

A seasoned individual with demonstrated team management experience and skills in mobilizing and working with internal and external stakeholders

Demonstrated ability to write and produce high quality reports, plans and strategies
