The ideal candidate will support the full scope of Human Resources responsibilities and partner with the organization on strategic initiatives. They will maintain and enhance the organization's human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating human resources policies, programs, and practices.

This position is an integral part of the senior leadership team to provide support and guidance in the areas of workplace accommodations, DEI strategies, and employee engagement. This position will also develop and update applicable Human Resource policies and metrics. This position works collaboratively with others within the Human Resources department to provide support in labour relations as needed. The Associate Director of Human Resources must respect the rights, confidentiality and dignity of each individual in keeping with the policies, mission, vision and values of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business management, organizational development or related field.
  • 7-10 years of progressive human resources experience, with experience in HRIS, labour/employee relations, workplace accommodation and recruitment.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience at a management level.
  • CHRL designation or equivalent is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with various forms of employment law and labour legislation, such as Employment Standards Act; Labour Relations Act; Ontario Human Rights Code; Pay Equity Act; Occupational Health & Safety Act;, and other relevant legislation and/or regulations pertaining to the client group(s) served is preferred.
  • Computer literate with strong knowledge in HR systems, MS Office suite of products is preferred.
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills with the ability to professionally and confidentially deal with conflict and counsel, advise, persuade and motivate employees at all levels using a collaborative approach.
  • Ability to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues, able to use reason, even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Ability to think both logically and creatively, a business-focused approach, high degree of organization and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Ability to work with people in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitments to goals and objectives.
  • Ability to write clearly and effectively present ideas and to document activities; to read and interpret written information.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Must be able to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector police check.
